The Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) has been under development for a number of years at the international level and is approaching its final stage. This new system is intended for most sectors where chemicals are being used, such as workplace, consumer and transport, but will not include pharmaceutical and cosmetic products intended for consumer use. It is hopeful that this system will be adopted by most industrialized countries around the world to facilitate the safe use of chemicals and hopefully eliminate most trade barriers between countries.
