When you design a room, it's critical to understand scale and proportion. If a room lacks proper scale and proportion, it will feel unsettling. But when these elements are used properly, they bring a subtle refinement and make a space feel cohesive.
Scale refers to the size of something in relationship to other things. If a room or an object is smaller than normal then it has a small scale. Conversely, if a room or object is larger than normal, it has a large scale. For example, an average end table measures about 24 by 28 by 24 inches. An end table larger than that could be considered large scale.
