The Coon Rapids Cardinals knew Friday's Northwest Suburban Conference football game at Maple Grove was for all the marbles. Well, maybe not all of them, but this much was certain: The loser would go home with nothing.
The Cardinals gave away a fumble on the opening kickoff - which cost them six points - but recovered to roll the Crimson 23-6 and remain tied with Blaine atop the conference ladder. The loss knocked Maple Grove a game back.
Coon Rapids (5-1 overall, 4-1 in conference) tried a handoff on the opening kickoff, but the trickery backfired into a fumble recovered ...
