Oct. 8--For the first time in its nearly 70-year history, E.&J. Gallo Winery is opening a public tasting room.
No, it's not in Modesto, where the company has had its headquarters since it was founded in 1933.
The tasting room is in downtown Healdsburg in Sonoma County, near where Gallo makes its upscale Gallo of Sonoma wines.
The tasting room is another departure for Gallo, which has long been known as publicity-shy. Most Gallo properties in the Central Valley and in Sonoma don't even display the Gallo name.
