DUPONT SAID last Tuesday that it would continue defending against pending asbestos liability lawsuits despite settling a major combined suit in a West Virginia state court. Dow Chemical subsidiary Union Carbide said it would fight on, however. Both firms are among more than 250 companies named as defendants in a consolidated asbestos court case now under way in state court in Charleston, W.Va.
As many as 8,000 individual plaintiffs in the case contend that asbestos produced by some defendant firms and used in products manufactured by other defendants caused or may cause health problems for which they are due compensation. Union Carbide is among a handful of ...
