American Isuzu Motors Inc. is on the ropes.
Once known for affordable, reliable vehicles and its big-budget campaign that made its Joe Isuzu ``liar'' character a household name, Isuzu sold 127,630 vehicles at its 1986 peak. But Isuzu has since hit hard times.
1. Its Axiom sport-utility introduction flopped last year.
2. The company sold only 36,471 vehicles in the United States in the first eight months of this year, down from 61,534 during the same period last year.
