NEW YORK -- Forty years ago, Stan and Jan Berenstain, a married team of struggling cartoonists with a new son, sat in a boardroom with Theodore Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, and presented a children's book manuscript, complete with illustrations, about a quirky and loveable family of bears. Theodore Geisel was impressed. He signed the book and quickly asked Stan and Jan to write a series featuring these "Berenstain Bears."
