Wal-Mart shops for local stores, insiders disclose
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart, an aggressive discount retailer entering the California market, is shopping for five locations in San Diego County, report local brokers and developers.
Officials with the $26 billion-a-year publicly held chain confirmed only that they plan to build 10 stores in California. Mike Nelson, assistant director of real estate for Wal-Mart, wouldn't confirm or deny that San Diego is in the retailer's expansion plans.
But Grubb & Ellis Co. retail broker Ed LaGuardia said Wal-Mart representatives have been searching San Diego County for five new store sites.
