In the pantheon of great British screen actors, there is a place that will be forever reserved for the late Sir Alec Guinness. For millions of fans, he is immortalised as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Knight from Star Wars, but there is hardly a significant film from the '50s in which he doesn't feature and, in his time, he portrayed Hitler, Charles I, Julius Caesar and the Pope.
The National Film Theatre, in celebrating its 50th anniversary, has decided to honour Britain's great actor knight by showing 25 of his best movies.
