Smart, sophisticated and fun, the "Ultra Baroque" show of Latin American art opening Sunday at Walker Art Center introduces 16 exuberant south-of-the-border artists to the Twin Cities.
Like artists everywhere these days, the "Ultra Baroque" crowd tends to do a lot of things spontaneously (and sometimes simultaneously) - paint, sculpt, take photos, play in rock bands, make films, do videos and installations. All these media are included in a show that's wildly colorful, sensual and filled with over-the-top stuff - fake fur walls and costumes, thrift-store style paintings, cross-dressing turkeys.
