Article: HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson and VHA Health Foundation Launch Initiative to Educate Hispanics and American Indians About Dangers of Type 2 Diabetes; Type 2 Diabetes in Children is an Emerging Epidemic in the Unite States.

WASHINGTON -- The VHA Health Foundation announced today a hospital/school partnership program designed to increase the awareness and prevention of type 2 diabetes among Hispanic and American Indian children in 25 communities nationwide. The initiative, funded through a grant from the Novartis US Foundation, is designed to help reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes among children by teaching families about basic nutrition and fitness, which can help manage or even prevent the onset of the disease.
