Singapore is such an established hub for the chemicals sector that it is easy to forget that a few decades ago there was virtually no chemical industry on the island at all. As in other industrial sectors, it has been the government's commitment to building on Singapore's natural competitive advantages and working and planning hard to eliminate any weaknesses that have resulted in its current strength in chemicals and biomedical sciences.
