Should we have a FTSE 10 index to separate the mega caps from the large cap equities on Londons stock markets?
Rothschild Asset Management in last weeks Investment Adviser identified the impact the top 10 equities by market capitalisation has on the performance of the other equities. Currently, most investors use the FTSE 100 to identify large cap UK stocks, the FTSE 250 for mid cap and FTSE All-Share for the small shares.
However, the top 10 equities make up 44.8 per cent of the FTSE All-Shares total market capitalisation, according to Bloomberg.
