Larry Holier, M.D., says he is ready to prove a physician can successfully run a large teaching hospital. Hollier last month took over from a nonphysician as president of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, replacing longtime president Barry Freedman. Hollier admits stepping up is going to be a challenge.
The 1,171-bed hospital logged $80 million in losses in 2001, paid more than $100,000 in fines this year for violations of state quality standards and faces a competitive market.
