New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that the game-winning tally by Los Angeles Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz on July 27 has been recognized as the 2002 MLS Goal of the Year, an annual award rewarding the most spectacular scoring effort of the season.
Ruiz's strike came in the 75th minute against the Columbus Crew at the Rose Bowl. Forward Alejandro Moreno delivered a cross from the top left corner of the penalty area to the far post.
