A 26-year-old Marblehead man who started his own limousine service just a year ago died early Friday behind the wheel, and police say speed may have been a factor.

Thomas Dubowik was killed when his Lincoln Continental swerved off Lafayette Street shortly after 1 a.m., slammed into two telephone poles and crashed into the stone wall of a cemetery. He was alone in the car.

"He may have been speeding. The limit there is 30 because it's thickly settled," Marblehead police Sgt. Brian Hitchcock said.

Dubowik was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are not sure whether he was wearing a seat belt.
