Oct. 18-- CORTEZ , Colo.-- A freakish fall has arrived in this region, with vast swatches of evergreens turning brown, along with the oaks.
After southwestern Colorado's devastating summer of drought and fire, pestilence is spreading its stain on the area's enormous forest of pi[+ or -]on pines.
A sea of green pi[+ or -]ons, a seemingly unconquerable expanse of woodland since history has been recorded here, is turning rust-colored and dying off.
