A money-saving move to eliminate the position of King County fire marshal has alarmed the firefighting community, although county officials insist safety won't be compromised.
"There isn't an impact to public safety here," said Paula Adams, a spokeswoman with the county Department of Development and Environmental Services, which oversees the fire marshal's unit.
Yet, fire officials believe that one person needs to be dedicated to oversight of the fire-inspection program of buildings and new construction in the county to ensure public safety.
