Oct. 22--Las Vegas is winning the near-term battle for gaming market share even while it may be losing the long-term war, industry experts say.
Total gaming revenues in the Las Vegas market have eroded to only 26.3 percent of the U.S. market since Nevada lost its monopoly over legal casino gaming about 25 years ago.
Still, Las Vegas' share of the U.S. market should only slip another three-tenths of a percentage point to 26 percent in the next five years, projections published in the Bear Stearns 2002-03 North American Gaming Almanac and released Monday show.
