Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music opens its yearlong Brahms Festival at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College.

The concert will be preceded by a presentation on Brahms and his world.

Linking together concerts with classes, lectures and community seminars, the Brahms Festival represents a departure for the Setnor School of Music - part of its effort to reach out to the community.

The music of Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) - his four symphonies, his piano pieces, his German Requiem and countless other works - is widely known, but the man behind the music is not.
