Standing on the eastern edge of a Santa Fe Springs oil field is a hulking factory. No signs identify the tenant, or even the address.
Uniformed guards patrol the parking lots and electronic security doors admit only those with clearance.
The plant manager, Dave Wilcox, gets his marching orders directly from corporate headquarters in Illinois, via videotape.
Only he and a few hand-picked assistants view the tape in private, attentively memorizing the formulas and procedures before shipping it straight back to the top brass.
