Oliver Winery, the oldest existing in Indiana, and the largest, turns 30 this year and is poised to expand and improve on its record of quality grape growing and winemaking.
In 1970 there were only three Indiana wineries, all located in southern areas of the state. William Oliver, a law professor at Indiana State University in Bloomington, wanted to start winery No. 4, but was bedeviled by the state's restrictive laws which, among other limitations, would not allow tasting rooms or direct sales to the public.
