The Second Century. . . An Update of Antennas and Transmission Lines
May 1988 marked the 100th anniversary of the publication of Heinrich Rudopf Hertz's paper "On Electromagnetic Waves in Air and Their Reflection." Few would disagree that Hertz's experiments proved to be the major cornerstone of present day electromagnetics; Hertz was able to demonstrate that the mathematical predictions made by James Clerk Maxwell in 1864 were indeed correct. Electrical disturbances could travel out ward from a source and produc an effect at a distance.
