DOCTORS are urging parents to beware of a potentially life-threatening disease which strikes 20,000 young children every winter.
Bronchiolitis is a severe lung disease which causes cold-like symptoms but can lead to serious chest complications. Most people are unaware of the illness.
A highly contagious virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of bronchiolitis. It causes the bronchioles - tiny air passages in the lungs - to become clogged up with mucus.
