Allergy shots may do more than help eliminate the symptoms of allergies. A Swedish study found that children with hay fever who receive immunotherapy (allergy shots) are less likely to develop asthma.
The 191 children studied, ages 6-15 years old, were allergic to birch and/ or grass pollen. At the beginning of the study none had any signs or symptoms of asthma for at least three years. Half the children received allergy shots, the other half, placebo shots.
