Officials in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) have narrowly rejected an attempt to clarify the mission of the award-winning Presbyterian News Service, voting instead to allow the news service to continue under its current guidelines.
The church's General Assembly Council, which serves as a board of directors, split 21-21 on September 28 when asked to approve the service's new operating guidelines. The panel's vice chairman, Vernon Carroll, cast the tie-breaking vote against the measure.
