Oct. 24--ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Altamonte Mall is the victor in the competition to open a multiplex movie theater in the city.
Crews have begun site work on an 18-screen theater in the mall's western parking lot.
The work of heavy machinery digging up the pavement on Wednesday was in contrast to a lack of activity next door, where another theater was to be built as part of a planned new downtown.
City officials and the developer of the proposed Altamonte Town Center have agreed to halt plans for that project's 16-screen movie house.
