As police arrested two suspects in what appeared to be an end to the capital region's sniper attacks, groups on both sides of the gun issue debated whether a national 'ballistic fingerprinting' system could have helped authorities catch the suspects sooner.
For gun control advocates, the authorities' search for the killer over the last three weeks demonstrates the value of a system that could match a fired bullet with a particular gun.
