Clothing: It's the New Stuff That Sells
Most clothing people in the U.S. - retailers as well as manufacturers - are by nature, conservative. For many generations they've lived by the commandment "Thou shouldst always play it safe with a nice pinstripe . . ." So now, with business less than fantastic, you'd expect these cautious folk to put the brakes on, get rid of any hint of pizazz and redouble their allegiance to the classic American shouldered model in navy and gray and, for board meetings and bar mitzvahs, the pinstripe.
