Wild Wheels

Considered to be on a par with wild beasts, automobiles were prone to bucking, jumping, tearing off on their own and generally being totally unpredictable. To demonstrate that the auto had indeed been tamed, one was driven up a wooden track to the roof of a house in Chicago.

Brooklyn, N.Y., was once famous for its grain elevators. The grain business was destroyed and the elevators razed after a crooked trust promoter took control of the industry and charged exorbitant loading fees.
