In President Bush's address presenting the U.S. case against the Saddam Husseyn government, he mentioned directly the Assyrians as part of the formula of a future Iraq. The Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) on 10 October said: "In a historic and highly symbolic gesture, the U.S. president also referred to Assyrians (including Chaldeans and Syriacs) in his address, stating that with the liberation of Iraq 'The oppression of Kurds, Assyrians, Turkomans, Shi'a, Sunnis, and others will be lifted.'"
