Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips sits on the tour bus, parked in front of The Chicago Theater.
After one night of backing up quirky pop-rocker Beck (following an opening set with his usual mates in The Flaming Lips), equally idiosyncratic Coyne's happy to take 20 to talk on his cell phone.
He knows what's ahead when he and fellow Lips Steven Drozd and Michael Irvins enter the theater.
"It's a long day of making sure every wire is plugged in, and sound check and junk, organization to get done by 7:30 at night. These are early shows, and there's lots of people to talk to and stuff," Coyne says.
