The U.S. market will get only one version of the Mercedes-Benz A class, the automaker's head of marketing says.
Although Mercedes plans several variants of the next-generation subcompact, including a roadster, it plans to send only the four-door model to the United States, said Joachim Schmidt, head of worldwide sales and marketing for the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart brands.
Schmidt, interviewed at a Mercedes event here, said U.S. sales of the model will begin in 2005 or 2006.
The A class, which debuted in 1997, is sold in Europe and Japan and comes in two models.
