Uzbekistan consumes energy generated by oil, gas, coal and hydropower. Gas is the most important source of energy in the country, followed by oil. With a population of 25 million, Uzbekistan is the largest consumer of gas among the Central Asian states. Consumption of coal and hydro-power are far lower by comparison.
The government's goal of self-sufficiency in all aspects of energy has been achieved, as the country's production of oil, gas, coal and water power exceeds its local needs.
