As we drive through the mountains of Pennsylvania, all around us the beautiful autumn colors cover the hills like a tufted quilt. The children have their books spread out in the back seats, and they
quiz each other.
On the tape deck, a favorite song plays, and people sing along. One child sleeps in the far back seat. The cell phone rings; time for a conference call. I participate in the meeting, then write up my notes. This is home-schooling on the road.
"Hey, we just entered a new state," I yell. "Tell me 10 facts about this state."
This is our tradition. The children ...
