Primo Levi's first Holocaust memoir, Se questo e un uomo, was published in 1947 and sold fewer than 2,000 copies. However, due to the success of this work's republication by Einaudi in 1956 and of Levi's subsequent autobiographical writings such as La tregua (1963), Il sistema periodico (1975), Se non ora quando?
