4. OLEOCHEMICAL PRODUCTION UP 8% ANNUALLY

The country's resources based and export oriented oleochemical industry has hardly been affected by the crisis that has badly battered other industries in the country. In 1997-2001 period, the country's production of oleochemicals has continued to rise as demand has also continued to increase abroad. In the past five years, production has risen by 8% annually on the average - from 526,259 tons in 1997 to 712,012 tons in 2001.
