A FIREMEN'S strike could cripple fuel supplies to motorists.
Despite the suspension of the firefighters' action, fuel tanker drivers warned they could still stop work on safety grounds if talks failed to resolve the dispute.
Using the same tactic as militant Tube and rail workers, the tanker drivers said they would not trust the ageing Green Goddess fire engines, manned by troops, to cover the safety of fuel delivery.
Leftwing rail union bosses Bob Crow of the RMT and Mick Rix of the train drivers' union ASLEF, have already said their members would not work if safety were compromised during any dispute.
