The Clean Water Act of 1972 was the nation's first comprehensive water pollution control law. Its enactment still stands as a major milestone in the restoration and protection of our lakes, rivers, aquifers and coastal areas.
Governor Pataki has designated 2002 as the "Year of Clean Water" both to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the federal Clean Water Act and to reaffirm New York State's commitment to restore and protect our waters.
