HIAA: In 1988, 87% Of U.S. Had Health Coverage

WASHINGTON - Some 212 million Americans, 87 percent of the population, had either public or private health insurance coverage in 1988, according to a new report from the Health Insurance Association of America.

The report - The 1990 Source Book of Health Insurance Data - said that of the 212 million Americans with health insurance, 89 percent had coverage either through employer-provided plans or individually purchased insurance. The other 11 percent were covered under public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, the report said.
