National rail service expectations unfair
Have you noticed how airlines and highway proponents make quite a show while running around begging for more taxpayer dollars - a few billions here, a few billions there - which is socialism at its most obvious.
Airlines historically are lousy financial performers - sometimes breaking even, most surviving on the edge of bankruptcy and all sucking up taxpayer dollars. They are truly a public works project.
Highways, too, are money losers. The fuel tax is never enough to cover the cost of construction and maintenance, and never enough to cover the expense of police, fire and emergency services required. ...
