Black cats creep through our October imaginations, shadowed by superstition as they cross our wary paths.
Maybe it's this seasonal spookiness that explains the awful stories - the tales of cult cat killings and ritualistic mutilations - that surround Allhallows Eve.
Maybe not.
Some Northwest pet shop managers and animal shelter keepers aren't taking chances. Come October, they put the all-black cats in the back of the store, send them off to temporary foster homes, or keep them behind doors until Halloween's over.
