FRUIT SNACKS are in demand among kids and adults, suppliers say, based on product claims of convenience, nutrition and wholesomeness. Dollar sales figures alone indicate retailers shouldn't ignore the category -- they're up 3.9 percent for the year ended July 14, 2002, according to Information Resources, Inc.

Jodi Bentele, product manager for fruit snacks, Farley's & Sathers Candy Co., Inc., says fruit snack pieces have alone racked-up double-digit growth over the past 52 weeks. She points out that during the same period, total non-chocolate candy sales have remained relatively flat.
