THE BOARD GAME IN CHRIS VAN ALLSBURG'S JUMANJI BROUGHT A menagerie of jungle animals to life and sent them tearing through young imaginations. Twenty years later--following Jumanji's 1995 film adaptation and the success of several mysterious tales, including The Polar Express--the author returns with another story about a magical game.
Why did you write Zathura?
There was a high level of interest on the part of children who had read Jumanji, because the ending is unresolved. So I knew t, here was some curiosity about what might have become of Walter and Danny Budwing, the boys who discover the game at the end.
