Oct. 30--FORT WORTH, Texas-- For more than a decade, Eddie Ambrister fought the big guys, trying to hold onto customers in the face of stiff competition from Home Depot and Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse.
But in the end, rising rent and property taxes, coupled with a decline in business, decided the fate of Ambrister's Wedgwood Hardware in Fort Worth after 38 years.
"It's time to get out of the business," Ambrister said.
"There's all the competition, but our landlord wanted to raise rent."
