SD company beats metal into baskets

In a move from guns to butter, a San Diego company has switched from baking metal parts for signal flares to selling baskets promoting locally grown goodies.

Basket Arts of San Diego assembles gift baskets filled with products, mainly gourmet food items, all made in San Diego.

Company founders Donna Nims and Shelly Blanchard have been putting together gift baskets for about 18 months.

"There was nothing really promoting San Diego," Nims said, adding that there are an amazing number of San Diego companies that produce and manufacture gourmet foods.
