Rami, a 9-year-old gray wolf, circled the gymnasium floor at Shortell Middle School in Wampsville.
After passing rows of seventh- and eighth-graders seated in bleachers and on the floor, she stopped at Mallory Lorch, 12, and touched noses with the girl.
"Rami was sniffing students' shoes, and I stuck my head forward, and she sniffed my nose," Mallory said. "I have a toy poodle at home who likes to lick my face. That might have made the wolf come to me."
