To the Editor:
Some of the "new music" of the past century was written with novelty as its main objective. This music is often felt to be inaccessible. Other examples of "new" music are meaningful, beautiful and well worth hearing.
From what I observed as a newcomer to Syracuse, the symphony's "adventurous" programming has focused on the latter kind of "new" music, such as John Corigliano's First Symphony, the powerful impact of which has been experienced by audiences in more than 70 performances worldwide. To those who missed hearing it played superbly by the SSO, I say this is their loss.
