In a long-awaited announcement, Interstate Bakeries Corp. named James R. Elsesser, a former vice president and chief financial officer for the Ralston Purina Co., as its new chief executive officer.
Elsesser, 58, replaces Charles Sullivan, IBC's long-time top executive who retains his post as chairman of the company.
In naming Elsesser, Interstate Bakeries selected a food industry veteran who is well-known in the investment community, has a strong financial background and is familiar with IBC's operation.
