John Allen Muhammad has done no favors to his faith - even if the killings had nothing to do with religion.
A Muslim convert, the prime suspect in the Washington sniper case is poised to deepen the divide between the Islamic community and other faiths.
Police stress they have found no connection between Muhammad and any Islamic extremist organization. Yet, some worry his mere association with the religion may be enough to spark the anti- Muslim sentiment that emerged after Sept. 11.
